- +o 624391, 624408, 624412, 624419, 624422, 656417,656420:
-
- This release of the MMSC presents a significant
- improvement in the stability of the MMSC over the
- previous releases. There was a bug in the MMSC firmware
- that manifested itself in many different ways. It
- caused MMSC to timeout on certain commands and then
- become unstable, such as described in bugs PV #:
- 624391, 624408, 624412, 624419, 624422, 656417, 656420.
- This bug was related to poor buffer management between
- various MMSC processes. This bug is fixed in this
- release, which results in much greater stability of the
-
-

-

-
- MMSC. Also new commands have been added to aid in
- working around some of the previous problems reported
- with the MMSC. Here are the descriptions of new
- commands. Each description explains what problems the
- command migh help solving.
-
- ARBITER
- Usage:
- arbiter
- Successful return:
- OK:RACKNUM
- Definition:
- Returns the current arbiter of the MMSC
- network in a
- multi-rack system. The arbiter is the
- MMSC responsible
- for resolving name conflict when new
- MMSCs are
- introduced to the network. The purpose
- of this command
- is to assist users who want to swap one
- MMSC for another
- one. This can usually be done without
- disturbing other
- MMSCs on the network, UNLESS the MMSC
- which is being
- swapped out is the arbiter MMSC. In
- that case, all the
- MMSCs should be reset after the swap,
- and all the rack
- ids should be checked and set correctly
- if necessary
- using the RACKID command.
-
-
- MACADDR
- Usage:
- macaddr
- Successful return:
- OK XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX
- Definition:
- This reports the ethernet address of
- the ethernet card
- in the MMSC. This command should be
- used if the MMSC
- network is acting abnormally. While it
- should never
- happen in theory, it has happened in
- the past when
- 2 MMSCs on the same network had the
- same ethernet
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- - 3 -
-
-
-
- address. This command will help in
- finding this
- problem. One of the 2 MMSCs that share
- the same address
- should be replaced.
-
- NUMRACKS
- Usage:
- numracks
- Successful return:
- OK X
- Definition:
- Returns the number of racks addressed
- by this command.
- For example, if one wished to know how
- many racks total
- there are in the system, the following
- should be issued:
- r * numracks.
-
- +o 661747: roboinst uses incorrectly - botches dhcp
- values beginning with t
-
- +o 670878: A freed structure was referenced in the
- routine nis_list_lookup if the request timed out before
- completion.
-
- +o 681987: Release notes in swmgr could not be viewed if
- the distribution location was specified with a relative
- pathname.
-
- +o 698947: fix non-initialized variable which could cause
- ioctl(PIOCENEVCTRS) to return Invalid argument
- spuriously.
-
- +o 699109: Changes in local name service files might not
- be noticed for up to a second due to a one second
- granularity on checks in nsd.
-
-
-
-
-
- 4.1.6 _B_u_g_s__f_i_x_e_d__i_n__I_R_I_X__6_._5_._4
-
- +o 651983: Remove redundant subsystems from prerequisite
- conflicts.
-
- +o 660979: Inst couldn't read a http distribution from a
- virtual HTTP server.
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- - 4 -
-
-
-
- +o 665370: Add an eject button to the swmgr dialog that
- prompts for a new CD.
-
- +o 665711: Added smart_config_handling preference. If
- enabled, do not install config(update) files if the new
- dist version has the same size/checksum as the
- previously installed version as reported by the inst
- history. Enabling this option would eliminate the
- post-install merging required of config(update) files
- that have not changed between releases.
-
- +o 669083: If the post install rqs processing was
- cancelled from swmgr, the rqsall process was not killed
- if swmgr was not started from a terminal.
-
- +o 674848: Inst prerequisite conflicts will now provide
- information, if available, regarding what CD contains
- the missing subsystem.
-
- 4.1.7 _B_u_g_s__f_i_x_e_d__i_n__I_R_I_X__6_._5_._3
-
- +o 582937: Inst incorrectly computes disk space
- requirements for patches.
-
- +o 599188: Noninteractive inst (inst -a, inst -A, inst
- -F, roboinst) does not always update
- /var/inst/.rqsfiles.
-
- +o 599996: Pre-go disk space check should not stop
- install.
-
- +o 608438: Inst 'admin load (file)' ignores the set
- directive.
-
- +o 614132: Inst incorrectly reports out of space when
- f_bfree < 0. This causes inst to fail on when NFS-
- mounted filesystems from other vendors report
- filesystems running at greater than 100% capacity.
-
- +o 635325: Inst should prompt before re-reading the same
- CD or distribution. Inst/swmgr will now check whether
- the current CD or distribution is already loaded.
-
- +o 641274: Diskless client installations of overlay
- releases using client_inst(1M) fail unless all
- distributions opened using a single "from" command.
- This bug causes problems during diskless client
- installations, because inst will not allow the user to
- select certain overlay products that have been
- installed in the share tree. This can result in
- numerous installation conflicts, and can prevent
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- - 5 -
-
-
-
- correct installation of the overlay release (such as
- IRIX 6.5.2) in the client tree.
-
- +o 642142: Installation of overlay releases results in
- many conflicts unless the "install prereqs" and "keep
- incompleteoverlays" commands are used. In this version
- of inst and Software Manager, the "standard" keyword
- has been changed to include "prereqs" and exclude
- "incompleteoverlays". In addition this version of inst
- recognizes two special commands "install maint" and
- "install feature" to make it easier to switch between
- streams. Software Manager has equivalent menu items on
- the Install menu.
-
- +o 645918: roboinst documentation issues.
-
- +o 651016: European fonts need Euro Symbol.
-
- +o 651528: roboinst setenv command has problems.
-
- +o 652739: roboinst_config doesn't follow symlinks.
-
- +o 659690: roboinst 1.1 does not mount custom filesystems
- correctly.
-
- 4.1.8 _B_u_g_s__f_i_x_e_d__i_n__I_R_I_X__6_._5_._1__a_n_d__I_R_I_X__6_._5_._2
-
- +o 527125: Inst would dump core if LANG env variable was
- set to ja_JP.EUC.
-
- +o 560351: Warn user when 'versions removehist' is used.
-
- +o 562156: Swmgr didn't obey -A or -u all.
-
- +o 568120: Inst conflict command sometimes produced
- garbled output.
-
- +o 579670 598339: Inst history not updated after
- cancelled/failed rqs.
-
- +o 579966: Inst/Swmgr could generate a conflict that was
- not resolvable.
-
- +o 586052: Inst/Swmgr would put user into interrupt menu
- unnecessarily on patch removal when a directory was
- missing.
-
- +o 591919: Provide a more helpful message from postinst
- after an autoconfig failure.
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- - 6 -
-
-
-
- +o 595429: Showprods could destroy a ".tardist" file.
-
- +o 599626: Inst core dumps using selection file
- containing "bad" remote hostname.
-
- +o 607421: Remote CD installs would fail if CD did not
- contain ".IM" file.
-
- +o 617424: Diskless installs of overlays did not work.
-
- +o 619380: Major inst/swmgr performance problem when
- installing overlays.
-
- +o 622317: Using conflicts command in inst -c command
- script would terminate script.
-
- +o 633238: Swmgr would core dump during some overlay
- installations.
-
- +o 634528: Swmgr and Inst would not install some files if
- product name != filename
-
- 4.1.9 _B_u_g_s__f_i_x_e_d__i_n__I_R_I_X__6_._2__t_h_r_o_u_g_h__I_R_I_X__6_._5
-
- +o 241982: Swmgr autoselect preference was being ignored.
-
- +o 443541: Interrupted connect system calls could not be
- properly resumed, causing Netscape to fail over slow
- links.
-
- +o 447490: Swmgr would not start up if it didn't get the
- colors it wanted.
-
- +o 448628, 448586, 448583, 448447: Swmgr had problems
- displaying multibyte text.
-
- +o 449929: telnet didn't handle -e flag correctly for
- null-character.
-
- +o 450734: Starting up swmgr from a remote toolchest did
- not display correctly when a root password was present.
-
- +o 456982: Using the get info capability of swmgr on a
- file could cause a core dump.
-
- +o 459827: Inst history file checksums were not being
- updated properly after rqs processing.
-
- +o 485269: Inst list command doesn't sort by product name
- correctly.
-

-
-

- setting for the miniroot was improved.
-
- +o 487549: 6.5.1m mailbox fix makes inside black (was
- mailbox -S cannot see text on the O2)
-
- +o 505714: Inst or swmgr now allows multiple products of
- the same name and different versions to be loaded in
- the same installation session.
-
- +o 508209: Patches that change the base file type (ie.
- dir to symlink) would not install properly.
-
- +o 535947: Inst or swmgr product rules could get
- corrupted under certain rare circumstances during
- network installs.
-
- +o 542322, 542301, 470457: Selection files without a from
- line failed when using inst or swmgr. Selection files
- consisting solely of remove commands failed. Selection
- files with remove commands and other commands always
- executed the remove commands even if the optional
- version number did not match. Selection files did not
- honor the open command.
-
- +o 542709: Remote installs using swmgr or inst could
- leave unnecessary shell processes running on the
- server.
-
- +o 544082: Swmgr would hang under certain rare conditions
- after a right click on a product name.
-
- +o 544319: Inst or swmgr would occasionally core dump
- when installing over a failed NFS mount.
-
- +o 560428: Inst or swmgr would sometimes calculate the
- volume header device name incorrectly causing exitops
- that use $vhdev to fail.

- +o 774645: esphttpd have to provide "multiuser" support
- for ESP2.0 with permission levels. ESP 2.0 fixes the
- single ESP user with Multi-User support. Users are
- given a set of permissions( see the "User Permissions"
- section in the Web Interface or via espconfig(1m) ).
- Also, the previous Administrator username will get all
- permissions once the patch is installed. Newly added
- ESP 2.0 users have no permission unless the
- Administrator set them. There is no correlation between
- UNIX users and ESP users. Note that th e default user
- in ESP1.0 was released with a known password
- (partner),leading to a potential security hole. If user
- password remains changed in the system, the default
- user account is migrated to ESP2.0 without any
- permissions. The user is prompted to run on the command
- line to recreate this account with the default
- settings. To run the command line, you would need root
- access to the system. This is there by block any
- security hole with the default user (administrator) and
- password (partner).
-
- +o 775280,776102: ESP must provide the ability to setup &
- save various event profiles and distribute them over a
- group of systems. This capability has been introduced
- with this patch release. The base events that existing
- in ESP1.0 has been modified to an eventprofile
- structure. Multiple profiles can now be set up and
- loaded either through the user interface or the command
- line configuration. Profiles can be merged, clean
- installed and removed thereby providing the flexibility
- to monitor a set of events.
-
- +o 775757: ESP User Interface usability issues. This bug
- has been fixed with this patch. The UI has been
- completely re-organized. Navigational features have
- been added by cross referencing the reports to setup
- pages. Most of the UI components have been reduced to a
- single page operation.
-
- +o 775758: ESP needs to provide ability to generate group

- +o 776105: ESP must provide an electronic log book for
- logging various activities performed on the system. The
- capability of a logbook has been provided through the
- graphical user interface. Entries up to 4K can be made
- using the logbook capability. A set of reports are
- available to view the logbook entries between any given
- dates. The logbook entries are also cross referenced by
- the event reports on a date basis. This allows to check
- if any log entries are made against events.
-
- +o 776106: ESP should provide printable reports. This
- capability has been added in this patch release. A
- printable view icon is provided against all the
- reports. Clicking the icon will generate a plain text
- output to the browser. The browser print capability can
- be used to print to paper. All reports are formatted to
- fit in 80 columns
-
- +o 776213: Remote systems are not added to actions in
- System Group Manager mode. When event attributes like
- throttle,registration flag ... are updated for a non-
- local host ( SGM client ) , registration attributes
- updates were not propagated to the SGM server. This was
- also reported as Bug #786715.
-
- +o 778880: startup script flaw esp. A esp startup script
- flaw was causing espevents to be started even if the
- database daemon(espdbd) was not responding. This may
- have cause some database corruption.
-
- +o 780232: esp system needs chkconfig flag. The chkconfig
- flag has been introduced with the patch release for
- ESP. By default, the flag is set to ON. It is
- recommended that this should always be kept on for
- pro-active monitoring of the system using ESP.
-
- +o 780246: eventmond have to disable "CORE" file creation.
- Unless eventmond is started in debug mode, eventmond
- will not create a core dump when a SEGV happens. This
- is done to be in accordance with most security practice
- since eventmond current directory is "/".
-
- +o 782750: ESP must provide capability to log all
- collected data to the ESP database at SGI. This
- capability has been provided in this patch release. An
- application (espcall) has been introduced that gets

- +o 789412: ESP does not have a command line option for all

- patch release. Two sets of commands have been
- introduced via espconfig(1m)and espreport(1m). The
